*Silk can't help but blush.* Please, sir, I am not old enough to be called a marm!* She hides a giggle behind her paw and turns her head away, rolling her staff around on the ground with the other paw. Hares are strange, she concludes. Very, very strange.* Say, sir...how long have you been here? It seems nice here.

**Looking hopeful and eager to practice with another beast, Sapphire stepped into the arena. As according to her nature, she did not call out quite yet. The mousemaiden was arrayed in her usual red-and-gray attire, and the long ruby colored shirt was clearly visible in the sunlight. A shaft of it pierced through her path, and as she strolled into it, her eyes flashed a shade of intense amber. Sapphire's gaze was carefully guarded; she was a calm tactician who analyzed her opponent's every move. As usual, her trousers were caught up just below her knees, with a fair amount of cloth fanning out around her knees to make space. Her paw-to-paw combat tactics required a comfortable, practical outfit that would allow her the space needed for her range of flexibility. Steel-shod boots came up to wrap around her footpaws where the trousers ended, and the sole tips angled up, ever so slightly, at the front. Tall for her species, the mousemaiden was still getting used to having to look upwards at others.
Sapphire was an expert in paw-to-paw combat with any type of armed beasts. She had traveled to many different lands in her adolescent years and had observed their styles of unarmed combat. However, three styles in particular had fascinated her, and she had adopted all three into her previous range of paw-to-paw combat moves. She still trained daily, but was not sure of her abilities in facing an armed, randomly moving adversary instead of the usual inanimate flat rocks and tree branches that she broke for practice and firewood. Therefore, she had been somewhat hesitant about yelling out a challenge. But as she walked into the clearing, Sapphire called out.**
Hello? Anybeast here? **Ridiculous, she thought. Of course there's somebeast here, silly idiot... silly idiot? I really have to start coming up with more original insults.** I'll spar anybeast, armed or not! I sound like a stoned beetle. **The thoughts flitted through her head like shadows of yesterday, but deciding that nobeast would probably want to spar, she found a good practice area. To calm herself down, Sapphire closed her eyes and began a practice set of unarmed combat, concentrating on her breath as she shifted stances and paw-strike techniques in slow motion. In, out. Inhale... and exhale. Focus only on your breathing. Your breathing is deep and slow. Inhale, exhale. The mousemaid could already feel the thoughts and the rush of confusion draining from her head, leaving only the adrenaline and stamina that she would need.**

*Walking in behind the mousemaid and hearing her call for anybeast, Tasna clears her throat and speaks up* I most definately believe that I am an armed beast, ready for a good sparring. *The otter walks over to where the weapons are placed, and grabs a staff. She spins it with skill, smiling at the mouse* I knew that the rigurous training I had would come in handy some time. *She slammed the bottom of the staff against the ground and stood ready, waiting for the mouse to make a move*
Are ye going to spar with or without a weapon? *Tasna used forceful words and has a certain gleam in her eye. Flowing with ambition, she stood still as a rock in her spot on the arena, thinking of a quick strategy to use*
OOC: How about we use the color green?

OOC: Sorry, I totally forgot about the thread! Um... would green show up well on a green background? It doesn't show up on my screen quite well. Can we use red?
BIC: **Sapphire spun at the sound of a voice addressing her, then saw Tasna. She gazed steadily up at the otter, allowing her gaze to hide any self-doubt that she might be feeling. The young mousemaiden grinned, liking what she saw. The otter had a marked advantage over her in size and weight, and she carried a staff, which Sapphire had dealt with before but was still fairly unfamiliar with. She glanced up at the ottermaid's eyes. If Sapphire had chosen her opponent for this spar, there could have been no better than Tasna. The young trainee's expressive eyes glimmered the striking dark amber against the crimson theme of her apparel. Although her face and expression were yet rendered an unreadable blank plate, Sapphire's eyes were what captured the observer's attention, seemingly lit from within by a hidden flame. She now attempted to dim the usual intensity. True, she was a warrior, and had a typically reserved but intense character, but Sapphire had no intention of scaring off potential sparring opponents with a misdirected look. Easy now, easy...
The lightweight metal boots stepped forward as Sapphire stuck out her forepaw.** Hi, I'm Sapphire Fleetpaw. I'll be sparring without a weapon -- actually, I can't use one anymore, even if I tried. Pleased t'meet you ... um... **Her voice trailed off as she looked up, the unspoken question clearly expressed in her eyes. **

Hi, I'm Sapphire Fleetpaw. I'll be sparring without a weapon -- actually, I can't use one anymore, even if I tried. Pleased t'meet you ... um...
*Tasna nodded and threw the staff to the side of the arena. She walked forward and accepted Sapphire's paw with her own* Hi. I'm Tasna DeRud. I haven't seen you around for awhile Sapphire. No weapons? Sapphire has the advantage. I wasn't the best in hand-to-hand combat training, but I still remeber a few tricks. Sounds good.

*Nadia wandered into the sparring arena. Warm sunny days always made her sluggish. It was just something inherent to her species. Early on, she had figured that the best way to shake this sluggishness off was to practice with her weapons.
The sun glinted off of the cat's sleek, variagated fur as she stretched and strolled over to the weapons' rack. The brightness had already made her pupils almost disappear into her green eyes, giving her a steelish gaze that she secretly preferred over her usual soft look which never did well to intimidate an opponent in a real fight.
The one thing she did hate was the humidity. Already her paws were starting to get slippery. Before she chose her weapon, she stooped and rubbed a handful of the arena's sand in her paws. The warm grains trickled back down to the grund, sifting past her claws.
After another long stretch to limber herself up, Nadia started inspecting the swords on the rack. This one was too long. That one's handle too small. Finally she chose a blade whose weight and balance were similar to her own. It was a wooden short sword that was a little broader than a normal short sword. Nadia also usually fought with her claws; however, in sparring she simply pulled them in.
Glancing around and not seeing anybeast actively looking for a sparring partner, Nadia decided to be content with practicing on her own until somone else showed up. Picking an empty space in the arena, Nadia lifted the sword and started slowly going through a routine of combined thrusts, stabs, and blocks. These moves were merely for her to concentrate on her form. She had been taught that if she practiced the form, the movement would come naturally to her in combat. She had found this out to be true in her experience so far, small as that was compared to many others.
Nadia went through the forms faster and faster. She started adding a few paw swipes and turning and taking small jumps forward and back. Soon, she felt much better. She stopped to take a small break, breathing deeply. Sitting on a side log, she again rubbed the arena's sand in her paws. Her ears twitched behind and to the sides of her, listening and hoping for somebeast to come and spar with her.*

**A staff. Disarm her, and she'll be easy to deal with. The thoughts whirled rapidly through Sapphire's mind as she noted the weapon held by the otter. She shook Tasna's paw warmly.**
I haven't seen you around for awhile Sapphire.
Yeah, I haven't been around as much as I'd like. **Sapphire stepped back, lowering her torso to ground her fighting stance. Her right footpaw aimed backwards, bent at a right angle and firmly planted on the earth, and she extended her left footpaw forwards, bent only slightly to the ground. This was what she called a back stance, a position that would help her to build up power for the aggressive tactics forming the base of her combat training.**
OOC: Not much to say here, either.

OOC: Since I haven't been active with Horus, he's gonna be a bit rusty, so... I'm gonna spar someone with him to get me back onto the feel of him...
BIC: Today's a new day... A new chance for a friendly spar.
**Lifting up a battered wooden long hafted war hammer, Horus stood at the edge of the arena.**
Any beast fancy a scrap?
OOC: Gold colour for anybeast sparing with me.

OOC: So everyone knows, miz Wildflower and I have agreed to a spar. ^^ So don't try to challenge me, 'kay? I'm already taken. (Sorry.)
Shall we post in thistle?
Oh, and I'm RPing as though it were a new day, ignoring all previous posts, 'kay? ^^
BIC: *Marie Blue-eyes Yewbow approached the outdoor sparring arena with a brisk stride. Her expression was cheery and bright, her gray eyes sparkled with anticipation, and her step had a certain bounce to it. It was a fine day, the first of the summer season. Gratefully, she tilted her gaze to the sky, admiring its unmarred shade of blue. It had been a wet spring, and she was very thankful that summer was promising to be much drier. The small Commander hated the rain. Her love of the Highlands had fostered a certain affection for snow, but rain? She had no love of it.
Besides, she had another reason for appreciating the fine weather. She was on her way to a friendly spar. The harvest mouse had agreed to fight the young squirrelmaid, named Wildflower, in a friendly battle for the purposes of exercise and practice. The spar was set in mid-morning, but Marie had left the Fort early, hoping to spend some time watching the other practicing sparrers.
The golden-furred mouse slowed to a stop outside of the ring of logs that formed the boundary for the arena. Seeing that her opponent had not yet arrived, she trotted to the weapon rack and rifled through the various wooden implements. Removing a short sword from the rack, she hefted it experimentally in her paw, testing its weight. Satisfied that it would serve her purposes, she began to warm up, stretching and putting the blade and her body through various forms that allowed her limbs to grow limber and strong.
The harvest mouse's movements were exact, but loose, somehow combining the best of both worlds. She was relaxed, clearly at home with a weapon in paw; but accurate to a degree that clearly displayed her prowess. She felt no hesitation about fighting Wildflower; she did not doubt her ability to win. She expected the entire experience to be more like training than a battle anyway.*
OOC: ...Bad post. Sorry. >< Stupid tme limit.

OOC: So, I'm just going with my previous post here as my starting point.
BIC: Anybeast fancy a scrap?
*Nadia jumped off of the log she was waiting on.*
Finally!!! I would be greatly obliged if I could spar with you.
Nadia picked up her wooden short sword from where it was resting on the ground. She eyes the other beast's war hammer. Hmm....maybe I should pick up another weapon. Aftr thinking about it for a moment, Nadia decided against it. After all, this was just a friendly spar and she was confident enough in her training and agility. Her footpaws swished in the arena's sand, the dusty smell bringing an agreeable odor to her nose. Taking up a stand, balancing on the tips of her footpaws, Nadia addressed the wolf.
My name is Nadia. What say we get started, eh?

A pleasure Nadia, I'm Lupercal. Horus L. Lupercal.
**Bowing, the wolf smiled at Nadia.**
I've never met a cat before. a Wildcat yes, but not a cat.
**Horus lifted the hammer in one paw as though it was nothing, or at least next to nothing. Slowly, the wolf blacksmith eyed his foe. Then without warining, he crossed the gap between them at a run, hammer whirling above his head.**
THINK FAST!
**Swinging the hammer forward hard, Horus put as little force into the speeding wooden object as he could, while still ensuring that it was still a powerful enough blow.**

Eh, don't worry. There's not too many cats around here. Being a warrior is also considered an odd profession for many cats. We usually prefer to pursue books and learning. But hey, don't let that stop you.
*Nadia shifted her footing to brace herself for the wolf's attack. As soon as it came, she knew she couldn't meet it head on. Instead, she slid to the side, letting her sword sweep upwards and around to deflect the blow. Clonk. The two weapons made a muted sound as they collided. With her right footpaw, Nadia swiftly lashed out. It was not aimed to hit anything, but rather to hook around the back of Horus' left footpaw so she could trip him. Her left paw, the one not holding the sword, shot out in a powerful jab at the wolf's nose.*
Actually, I can think pretty fast.

OW!
**Horus toppled backwards several paces before finally falling over. Standing up again, he smiled slightly.**
Not bad. You're the only one to ever thing about doing that in a spar. I gotta watch out for that then eh? This time I'll let you come to me...
**Holding the butt of the hammer, Horus let the head of it rest against the floor.**

*Nadia couldn't help but give a slight smile as the wolf tumbled backwards. However, the smile was erased when he said that she should now make the first move. That would prove a bit of a problem. He was obviously stronger than her, and if he blocked her move, she was pretty sure he could easily push her back. Ok then, maybe I should try jabbing. Nadia's tail swished in the sand as she thought. She looked straight into Horus' eyes as she lunged. Her sword was straight, point towards the wolf's stomach, propelled by the force of pushing off and by the whole weight of the cat. She kept her left paw free and ready.*
I hope you don't have a full tummy.

Bad choice.
**Using the speed that had saved his neck on many battle fields, Horus slide round to one side. As Nadia came past him, Horus grapped the sword blade in his left, and slashed viciously with his right elbow at Nadia's snout.**
Too close to doge lass.
