You are a traveler in the Mossflower area. The day is miserable, a cold winter rain falls from the sky in sheets. Unwilling to give up despite the unforgiving elements, you stumble onward through the woods. Soon you will reach the River Moss where you might find shelter from a friendly camp of shrews or an otter holt.
Luck is upon you, for as you near the river, you sight a village just on the outskirts of the forest. It's hard to see in the driving rain, but lights lead you to it. As you approach, a great fort suddenly looms up in the midst of the village, dwarfing the small houses. A wide grin spreads across your face for this is more than you could have hoped for as shelter from the weather. You stroll through the few rows of houses and up to the main gate. The guards above the gate spotted you long before you reached the gate and now called down to you.
"You there, be ye friend or foe?"
You look up, squinting to keep the rain from your eyes. "Friend. I'm just looking for a place to stay the night." The guard who spoke peers down from the battlements at the lone beast standing there and, seeming satisfied with either the answer or with what he saw, he signals the other guard to open the gate.
With a friendly smile ready, you enter the fort and are immediately questioned by a strong looking otter, probably another one of the guards. "Before ye stay 'ere, I'll be needin' yer name, purpose 'ere, etc. Oh, an' by the way," He adds with a grin, "Welcome to Otter's Fort, mate."
