"You can't do this to me Brawn!" Songwind's fiery face stared hard at her mate. She was mad at him. Mad at him for leaving her at Redwall, mad at him for making her cry.
Daffodil, who was sleeping nearby, shuddered. Songwind ran over, and placed a paw on her sleeping babe's head. The dibbun quieted and Song turned back to the Brawn. " Why?"
Brawn was frustrated. His parents had already yelled at him for leaving his two season old daughter and his young wife. Why did Song have to yell at him too? He faced her, green eyes blazing, " It's called orders! I don't have a choice!"
The squirrel healer sank onto a chair, feeling her foot-paws give out beneath her. Song shook her head as tears rolled down her cheeks. She looked at Brawn, and then looked away. " But, I need you! " Her voice was weak. " Brawn!"
The warrior looked at his, wife, and sat beside her, kissing her quickly. He lifted her chin, looking at her eyes. " Song, we can't fight. You know Daffodil needs you." He glanced at the dibbun squirrel. " She's a flower, like you. She needs your help to grow."
Song nodded and looked away from Brawn, out the window. Her eyes enjoyed the dreamy sight of night. Stars twinkled and the moon shone down on the squirrel family. " Alright. Promise me Brawn, You'll come back!"
Brawn's tunic rustled in the wind as he stood. The fighting squirrel saluted to his wife. " Yes Skylark, I'll come back."
"You'll come back..." Song repeated his words and put on a hardened expression. " Skylarks always sing Brawn. I'll call you back!"
Brawn nodded, and the couple melted into bed, both to dream of Each-other, and to dream of life. Because Skylarks always sing.
Oh yes. You get to hang.

It was early morning, the sun was only just beginning to spread its scarlet rays. Song stood alone on the walltop, waving as Brawn left, striding forward. Memories flooded the squirrel maiden.
This was the same place she had stood when her brothers left. Tears flooded Songwind's eyes as she stared at her mate, who turned slowly, and waved. He turned again, green eyes on the path. Thoughts swirled through Brawn's mind.
He wished things were different. He truly did. He wished Song could heal herself and let go of the past. But Brawn knew that she needed more than healing skills for that. Why can't she sing her brothers back? Brawn's tears dampened the path as he slowly trudged along.
Songwind dashed away from the walltops. Down the stairs she flew and into the small room she had shared with her family. She quickly dressed, throwing on a yellow gown with wide sleeves. Song recalled having laughed with Asney, Brawn's mother, when she had said that yellow was Brawn's favorite color.
Song looked at A waking Daffodil and smiled through the tears that wet her fur. Daffodil yawned and stretched. She smiled prettily at her mother. " 'mornin'. Where beez Papa?"
Songwind's smile was fading. "HE.... went.... out...... He's gone." Song grabbed her daughter in a hug.

A bit. But quality is better, but you could have made it longer. When its short like that it seems choppy.

Daffodil's small face suddenly darkened. She pushed away from Songwind, her tiny paws quivering. She shook her head a little, and stared through the tears that dripped form her hazel eyes. "No, Momma, Where he be?"
Songwind wished she could tell her daughter it was a joke, it was just one of his everyday practices. But it wasn't. She smiled and hugged Daffodil closer, planting a kiss on the infant's head.
Daffodil looked up, tears gone, a smile on her face. " Breakis' time?"
Song grinned a little and nodded, looking up in time to see her Mother and Father in Law, Asney and Helbren, walking regally over. Asney's shaking paws held yet another little dress for Daffodil. She seemed to always have one.
Songwind stood, paws akimbo, smiling at her parents in law. Daffodil rushed over to throw her paws around Helbren's knees. Asney bent to kiss Daffodil, and to show her the dress.
The infant squirrel squealed with delight at this one. It had daffodil's embroidered into the bottom, along with smooth peices of glass. Daffodil threw it on, and rushed off to join her friends.
Asney's eyes saw the small tear on Song's features and hugged her . She looked at Songwind, and smiled.
The young wife said two words. " HE's gone."
