Chapter 1
Rinafera stood among the crowds. The goodbeasts of Mossflower lined up in awe to see the Commander speak. It was a time of trouble. A large Horde had come. Thousands beyond thousands of cruel vermin came to Mossflower from a far away island to massacre the goodbeasts. It was slavery and surrender, or fight and die. Because the goodbeasts’ Horde was dying, the woodland creatures of Mossflower turned to the Fort. Only the Guardians of Mossflower could even hope of fending off the vermin for a day. The hare stood among the goodbeasts who were lining, watching the wooden podium. He was on his way back to the Fort when he spotted masses of woodland creatures fleeing. The rumors had been true. The, finally, the otter came from the back and onto the podium. Darter was in his war tunic, red with gold trimmings and medals on the insignia. Commander Seastreak was respected by everybeast, including Rinafera. Out of the corner of his eye, the white-furred hare spotted Crystal. The fox was standing with a determined look on her face. Rinafera hoped the creatures saw that look when they looked at him. His tunic swayed as the wind blew. The blue star, an award for loyalty was slapped near his shoulder, next to the warrior insignia on his shoulder. He wore the royal blue tunic, his scimitar hanging at his side.
“Everybeas’! Calm down!” Darter spoke with a tone in his voice never heard by his troops. It was wartime. “The vermin are on the loose, we must not panic!” Rinafera felt a tingling in his face, and grabbed the hilt of his blade. The hare could smell something rotten, and felt uneasiness. They were coming. Women and dibbuns were lined up, all about to be slain. Commander Blue-eyes walked up, her dirk shimmering from the sun’s glare. “Och, mah perfec’ day be ruined, y’ken?” She said, sensing it as well. Marie wore a beige light tunic, ready for action. Rinafera spun around to face her.
“They are coming, wot! Everybeast, get flippin’ into bally safety!” He yelled out in panic. Darter shook his head as he noticed the rising cloud in the distance. It was the dirt being kicked up by masses of running vermin. Raiden Uriel Silversword VII stood among the noble troops, and his rash bravery consumed. The vermin were in sight now, and the people were still in the open. Commander Laylark jumped off the podium, holding a bow. He fired a few arrows, most to no avail. Marie and her mate, Willem, stood ready for action. Crystal unsheathed her sword, and Raiden grabbed his claymore.
The battle had begun. Rinafera lifted his scimitar as Raiden and Crrystal charged into the fray. Mare stayed back, waiting for the vermin to run in. Darter stood on the podium, waving the sword and yelling out orders. Laylark ran at the vermin alongside the others, and Willem soon followed. The hare was blown back, hit by an enemy arrow. Rinafera growled, but before he could take it out a squirrel had ripped it out. Songwind the squirrel yanked it out and lifted a dagger.
More later.
