OOC: There will be some godmoding in this post, but it is necessary to start off this quest and to do this post.
BIC:*Dawn broke shedding light on the fort; many beasts were up and going about their daily chores. Sunlight also found a pair of beasts outside of the gates, walking around. These two were Shard the squirrel and Riverwake the otter, and the adventure begins here.*
*Riverwake and Shard were walking alongside the forest Mossflower, when some loud shuffling noises came from the woods. Instantly, Riverwake unslung his spear, and Shard his katana. They stood in wait, ready to strike at anything that emerged. Three shapes became visible, three otters, the one in the lead began speaking before he finished coming through the woods.*
Wait! Don't strike; I have a message for you. Otter-
Riverwake.
Riverwake, read this please.
*The mysterious otter hands Riv a folded piece of parchment, as the other two figures arrive, both otters. Riverwake unfolds the paper and begins to read aloud off the parchment.*
To whoever receives this message,
I send this from a day's march beyond the Eastern cliffs. We need help, direly. There has been a massive vermin army of no less than two thousand from even further east, and they have began to attack the fort of the Eastern Liberation Army, we need any assistance you can send us to help us fend off these vermin. These three messengers are some of our best and brightest, they can help you find your way and help you fight.
Godspeed, Brigadier Oakridge
*A thought came to Riverwake’s mind. Oakridge? Isn’t that Oakrim’s last name? Nah, couldn’t be him. He put the paper in his shirt pocket and addressed the trio.* You three, what are your names?
*The otter that handed Riv the message was the first to speak up.* Lavitz, Colonel in the ELA. *As he said this he also showed his weapon, a spear.*
*Next was the otter to Lavitz’s right, he carried a longsword.* Trishtian, Captain in the ELA.
*The last otter carried a battle-axe.* Delric, First Sergeant in the ELA.
*Riverwake nodded as he spoke.* He wasn’t lying, you guys look to be pretty good, well, let’s get to the fort to round up some beasts to go with us.
*The group of five entered the fort while it was still morning. Riverwake stopped at the entrance and yelled at the top of his lungs, so that everyone in the fort could hear him.* Hey! Everyone come up to the front gate for something!*He waited a few minutes as other members of the fort started showing up. When a sizable amount was there, he again read the letter. Then asked everyone there a question.* Anyone willing to go, tell me now, for we leave at noon!
OOC: Now is when you decide if you want to join. If you join while we are still on our way to the fort, we will act as if you were there the whole time to save time and confusion. I warn you though, there will be a cutoff point where no one else can join because it would be hard to join in on it.

** Laylark could not, for the life of him, figure out why he had gotten up so early. Yes, being an active member of the fort, there was always something to do. Yes, technically he should rise early, being a commander, but why did it have to be dawn? What it was that had woken him he could not be sure, but the Rascaram barracks were not a pretty sight and so he vacated his room as soon as possible.
It was a fairly nice day out. The sun shone merrily from its place in the pale blue sky and the breeze was cool and refreshing. The ground was wet and muddy, but such matters were of no concern to Laylark, not with his uncomfortable boots. This lovely weather however had no effect on him- no, he'd already spotted something to hold his interest.
This distraction just so happened to be a monarch butterfly, flitting about some bushes to the side. Stealthy as any fox should be, Laylark crept up towards it, face complete with foolish grin. The chase that ensued was an active one but the details will be spared. Laylark had the bug in his paws soon enough.
It was just as he was peeking at the creature with a furtive brown eye that a strong voice startled him.**
"Hey! Everyone come up to the front gate for something!"
Something?
**Laylark, being the curious beast he sometimes was, let the monarch go and hurried down to the gates, eyes wide with excitement. Something?
When he reached the front gate he was surprised to see three strangers, otters to be precise. He was sure he recognized the squirrel, though he couldn't put a name to the face, and the 'fort otter' he knew to be Riverwake. The young fox paused for a few moments before blubbering out the first words that came to mind:**
W-what something?
OOC: Hoh jeez, I really need to get RPing again. XD

* Mary awoke that morning to Riverwake's shouts. Getting out of bed grumbling, she got dressed. Once she had a tunic on and some boots, she went outside and yelled at him.*
Some of us were sleeping you know! Have some respect for other beasts!
* Even though she was upset at being woken so abruptly, she went over to the gate, curiious about what was going on. surely no beast would wake up another for a extremely stupid reason.* So that's what this is about? I'm in. Hold on.* Themousemaid ran to her room and grabbed her bow, and her arrows, thinking that she can use her new bow as a sword if worst comes to worst. When she came back, Laylark was there, along iwth some others.*

OOC: Hmm, sounds interesting. ^^
Warning: My RPing my be junky for a bit. I'm kinda busy at the moment, so I'm trying to squeeze this in among other things. =D Yup.
BIC: *Commander Marie Yewbow hummed a lively tune under her breath as she paced the walltop above the Fort's entrance. It was a clear, sunny day; gorgeous, really. I wonder if Will would be up to a picnic? The thought produced a happy smile and a delighted chuckle. Her display of mirth was cut short, however, when she caught sight of sunlight glinting off a spear point. Calmly, she walked to the outside edge of the walltop and peered into the woods. Though she knew there was always a possibility that there could be vermin about, she was relatively certain it was just some Guardian returning from scouting or patrolling or some other business. The harvest mouse leaned forward slightly to get a better view, and her eyes widened in mild surprise at the sight that met her eyes. It was Riverwake and Shard, two Guardians she knew; but what surprised her was the company they were in. Three otters -- young, strong, healthy, and clearly warriors -- strode along with the one-eyed river otter and the young squirrel. They seemed mildly uncomfortable; they were certainly unfamiliar with the Fort.
Curious, Marie watched them enter the Fort, then trotted to the stairs. Taking them two at a time, she came to the ground and started off towards the small group. As she neared them, she slowed to a comfortable walk, raised a paw, and opened her mouth to greet Riverwake; as she did so, however, the river otter offered his summons. Dropping the paw to her hip and closing her mouth, she stopped and cocked her head. "Something"? Rather vague, eh, Riv? Her curiosity now piqued to the point of absolute need, the officer joined the group that was beginning to form around Riverwake, Shard, and the three strange otters. Laylark was one of the first to arrive; the playful fox was a Commander and leader of the Rascaram. Sometimes Marie wondered how he had gotten the position; she considered the young creature a good friend, but his head was often in the clouds, and he didn‘t seem suited to a position of command. She banished the thoughts when they sprang up, however, unwilling to question the War Commander‘s choices in officers. Mary Narai was the next to arrive. The young mouse looked annoyed at the interruption to her rest, but curious at the same time.
Shifting her weight to her booted right footpaw, the Highlander took a closer look at the three newcomers. Her first impression seemed to have been fairly accurate -- they were young, strong, healthy, and clearly warriors. They were all otters, a fact she found interesting. In the past, there had been more division between the species, but in recent times there had been less and less distinction. The Guardians‘ Fort itself was a perfect example of this. Otter and badger and mouse lived side-by-side with shrew and fox and rat. Though some of the old groups, like the GUOSIM, Salamandastron, and the otter holts, still retained a sense of species-oriented unity; but Redwall itself was now considered home to good vermin and goodbeasts alike. Perhaps they‘re from the Mossflower Holt? Or they could be brothers… Or maybe you‘re just reading too much into something unimportant. Smirking wryly, the glanced back over the slowly gathering crowd, then raised a paw.* Will, o‘er ‘ere!
*The mouse she had addressed turned from scrutinizing the otters as she had been doing herself to catch her eye. Smiling, he raised a paw in greeting and ambled over. When he approached the smaller warrior, he nodded in the direction of the strange group.* Any idea what this is all about?
No more‘n yerself. Ah saw ‘em come in when ah was on guard duty an‘ came down t‘check it out. I‘m braw curious, though. Wish Riverwake would ‘urry up‘n explain wot this “something” is.
Mm-hmm. *The brown-furred mouse nodded his agreement. I just hope it doesn‘t mean trouble for the Fort… Trouble for the Fort meant trouble for Marie. As the thought passed through his mind, he glanced sideways at his mate. The clear sunlight played around the silver ring in her ear, reflecting in all directions, highlighting the golden tones in her fur and lending a twinkle to her misty grey eyes. A proud smile appeared as the worried wrinkle in his brow faded. What had he ever done to deserve her? She had a warrior‘s heart and a fighting spirit, as well as the pride of a Highlander. Whatever trouble may or may not come their way, she would survive and flourish in it. She was too stubborn to give in to a spirit of despair or defeat for long; nothing could dampen her determination.
Finally Riverwake spoke again, reading off the letter he had received from one Brigadier Oakridge. As the river otter spoke, the fire in Marie‘s eyes grew. The letter explained everything. The strangers were members of this Eastern Liberation Army. They had delivered this message, and Riverwake happened to be the one to receive it. They needed help. Badly. And they were asking the Guardians for it.*
Anyone willing to go, tell me now, for we leave at noon!
*Marie gave her companion a long glance before responding.*
Count us in, Riverwake. We‘re both ready an‘ willin‘ t‘go. ‘Course, ah can‘t be away fer too long. Spirit o‘ the Remnant needs leadin‘, and Darter can‘t run this place by hisself. But unless he orders meh t’stay ‘ere, ah’ll go with ye, an’ Will, too.
Aye, we‘ll both come.
*Anticipation tugged at Marie‘s mind, threatening to send her into a spurt of adrenaline. She fought to remain calm, closing her eyes momentarily; it wouldn‘t do to spend her strength before they got down to the real business. At the same time, Will felt a quiet surge of energy; though he did not let it overwhelm him, his muscles grew taught and his eyes lit up. It seemed a very long time since he had seen any real fighting; though he received no pleasure from other beasts‘ pain, he was always willing to lend a paw where the fighting of evil (usually as embodied by vermin scum) was concerned.*

Post by Tasna and Willowtail Riverend on Mar 28, 2007 14:26:37 GMT -5
*Tasna couldn't sleep. Her mind was on other topics that didn't include sleep. The otter sat on her bed, fiddling with her arrows, pointing them in different directions, turning them upside down, checking them from every angle. She placed an arrow down and walked over to her window. In front of the gate she saw two of the warriors from Mossflower, Riverwake and Shard. Near them were two otters that Tasna was unfamiliar with. Riverwake yelled something that perked her interest*
Hey! Everyone come up to the front gate for something!
*Not that she even knowing what he was referring to, the otter dashed out her door and slid down the banister of the stairs. After regaining her balance, Tasna hurried outside to see what Riv wanted to talk about*
OOC: I was pressed for time with writing this. I know, its shorter than I usually do for first posts. :-)

Post by Crystal M. V. Rosepaw on Mar 29, 2007 0:13:10 GMT -5
"Ugh..." Crystal sat up slowly, her eyes slightly bloodshot. Shivvering, she looked around, then relised she had fallen asleep on the barracks rooftop, writing again. the fox's head painfully throbbed, she had been sleeping at an odd angle, but after 4 nights with no sleep at all, she had finally dropped into the land of dreams, quill in paw. She had been woken by the cold, and the sound of her notebook's pages flipping also had somthing to do with her timely rousing. Closeing the book's worn cover, she buckled it shut and began to screw the lid back onto the ink's bottle, then place the ink and quill into her overlarge dress pockets.
Standing, the fox yawned and streched slightly, wondering what was for breakfast in an hour or so and pondering if her brother was yet awake. She doboted on the latter thought, she was lucky if he woke far after breakfast, almost lunch. Smiling weakly, she reclipped her cloak on and picked up the book before walking down the spiral stairs to the main barracks, where the lower ranks slept. In one corner was a shelf of books, most of them given by Mary, one of the vixen's few friends. The beds where along the wall, a rainbow of sheets greeted her dull eyes. Beneath a set of green blankets was her sleeping brother. She tread softly, not wanting to wake him. She didn't need to, it would take a huge drum or her shouting in his ear to ouse him this early.
She sat down on her black sheets, poking her grey pillow slightly, it's cold surface giving her paw a soothing feeling. With her right footpaw she opened a drawer in her nightstand and put notebook, quill and ink saftly inside, then locked the drawer with a small key, also from the blue dress's deep pocket. She sat for a long moment, then a dull shout reached her sharp ears.
"Everyone come up to the front gate for something!"
"Owch, shouts loud enough..." The vixen stood slowly, rubbing tenderly at her ear. She had been so used t the silence and break of it would have caused ear damage, it wasn't the fualt of the one raising the cry. "Best go armed..." Crystal mumbled to herself, forgetting about remaining quiet. Mortamus snored on, not minding the shout a bit, his chest rising and falling slowly under the blankets. Crystal didn't need to have muttered aabout going armed, she hardly ever went anywhere without a few pointy objects with her. Her large sword, her main weapon, was always strung aross her right shoulder, it's silver hilt and ruby pommel brightly shining, not buckleing or giving way to rain nor snow, remaining it's gleaming surface. In her other dress pocket was her dagger, Dragon's Fang, wrapped in light tan cloth. Her belt also could serve as a weapon, it's chain links had felled a few in is's short time under it's new owner.
The vixen ran on tip paw over to the stair then sat on the railing, sliding down into the main hall of the building. She walked quickly to the door, pulled it open with a small creak, closed it behind her, then set out for the gate's opening. White fur and emerald eyes gleaming, she looked up at Riverwake, standing a bit away from the growing crowd.
OOC: Oh, ew. >.>

*The bright morning sun shone brightly through Finnerator's window, light reflecting of dust particles in the air. The ottermaid knew she wouldn't be getting any sleep in the brilliant light so she rose from the bed to get ready for a new day at the fort. As she lazily pulled on a clean pair of trousers, she heard a shout from across the fort. The sea otter recognized the voice to be Riverwake's and listened carefully to catch what he was saying*
Hey! Everyone come up to the front gate for something!
*Finnerator paused a moment, wondering what on earth "something" could be. It was hard to tell whether it was a good or bad thing for the voice was rather distant from where she was standing. But while she finished dressing, she decided that it was worth it to check it out. The ottermaid pulled on a pair of boots, belted her dirk in its sheathe onto her waist and started for the door. Just before she left the room, she reflected that there could be some kind of trouble in the fort so she grabbed her longbow and a full quiver of arrows*
*Finnerator walked out of the barracks and headed to the front gate where Riverwake had asked everyone to go. She was bothered that she was delaying her breakfast by investigating, but at the same time, the ottermaid was a bit curious to see what was up. As she neared the gate, Finnerator could see a fair crowd gathering around Riverwake, Shard and a few other otters that were unfamiliar. I wonder where they're from, she thought as she joined the crowd just as Riverwake began to speak again*
*The sea otter listened intently to what he had to say. She had never heard of the Eastern Liberation Army before that moment, but instantly she knew that she had to help them. Two thousand vermin were nothing to laugh at. In small groups, they were never very much of a problem, but when that many were united under a powerful leader, there was no telling what they would do. She raised a paw confidently and addressed the three messengers from where she was at the edge of the crowd* You can count me in!
*After informing them of her decision, the ottermaid left to grab some breakfast and pack some provisions before the group would leave at noon. Heck, it was still relatively early. She probably had time for breakfast and then a quick lunch before noon came. With this goal in mind, she parted herself from the crowd and headed directly for the mess hall*

Post by Auburn, Lady Amber, and Saneth on Apr 21, 2007 22:30:56 GMT -5
*Auburn and Amber had risen well before the sun that morning, a part of their routine that they had not changed in several seasons. The auburn-furred churchmouse and reddish-orange squirrelmaid found the sunrise a glorious wake-up call, one that stirred their senses in appreciation of the beauty of the wild as they watched up on the ramparts the reds and pinks combine in the sky like a painter's palette, golden rays threading through the grayish-silver wisps of fog that clung to the land. Munching contentedly on a scone spread with blackberry preserve and each nursing a small beaker of cold mint tea, the two pretty maidens silently observed the commotion down near the ground, outside the gates of the fort.
Auburn, after gulping down the last dregs of her drink, was the first to raise her opinions out loud to her squirrel friend.* Think we should find out what they're doing down there? *Impatiently, she fiddled around with the brown belt wrapped tightly around her waist, right paw brushing her silver sword slightly. Waiting for a reply, the mousemaid fidgeted, readjusting the tan strap of her medic bag that hung over her slender shoulder and tugging at her green velvet tunic and matching leggings.
Lady Amber glanced over at her friend, slowly chewing the last bites of her morning meal. When Auburn began to tap her paws clad in brown leather boots, the squirrelmaid swallowed quickly and spoke hastily* Yes... let's... *At that moment, her words were interrupted as the two friends' ears picked up Riverwake's loud bellows* Hey! Everyone come up to the front gate for something! *Amber nodded her head and brushed the crumbs off her soft brown tunic and leggings, stomping her paws in their worn leather-clad boots to warm up her cold body.* We should go... Anyone willing to go, tell me now, for we leave at noon! *The pretty squirrel completed her sentence*...now. *With that, she quickly strolled towards the rampart stairs, resolutely carrying her willow bow and quiver of ash arrows. Her mouse friend followed silently and together, the two maids headed down towards the throng of beasts gathered around the entrance of the fort. Auburn raised her voice above the din as they approached* We're coming along!
