OOC: This is the thread where Rosie will spar against Tritan for the right to challenge Sandegar for the position of Lieutenant. IC, the spar takes place in the barren flatlands. You are well out of Mossflower, and can see Salamandastron a far ways away. This spar will end and be voted upon when it reaches a full page or so in length.

OOC: best of luck Rosie! May the best RPer win. BIC:
Flat, flat, flat. The setting for the duel was quite bland, quite different from the tree-riddled woods and the rocky cliffs of the east. No, this was like a flat oatcake on which no-one bothered to spread preserves, just let it stay as it is, the sea constantly eroding the edges not that far away. The smooth terrain was especially unpleasant for the otter, who had always fought on jerking and rocking ships and cliffs with jumping space, but never like this. This would be an absolute straightforward battle, with nothing to hang onto or to shield oneself from missiles.
The trip to the makeshift arena was mostly by foot, and he would have run out of supplies, were it not for the Salamandastron hares who had provided him with hardtack victuals. The otter rubbed his footpaws. Back in Mossflower he had been wishing to get out in the open where there were no roots and pebbles to stub upon. But out here in the flatlands, the sun shone directly on the beasts travelling in them, as well as the sand which absorbed the heat and magnified the intensity to an almost unbearable degree.
Tritan thought to himself about his future opponent. He had been told many stories about Rosemary Hazelnutt, better known as Rosie, and all told that she was a dueler renowned for her skill. A lump began to form in his throat as apprehension took over his mind. Calm yourself, he said to himself, not wishing panic to override his confidence and concentration. But what lay ahead, even if he managed to dominate Rosie in a fight, would be the legendary Sandegar, whose epic duels were told of as miracles and cast admiration all around the fort.
Tritan was clad in his usual green shirt and blue pants, with the somewhat faded dark gray vest, recently adorned with a silver lining. His weatherbeaten fur had remained untouched as the rest of his fighting attire had been scrupulously cleaned. He checked his belt, where notorious Corsair weapons were loosely hanging, namely a brass-hilted cutlass and a sickle, in fair condition and both coming from an unfortunate sea weasel. The dullness of the blades was made up for with the meticulous razor sharpening of Big Abacus, Blacksmith and crewmate to the otter. His spears strapped across his back had also been sharpened and polished, and a tight length of twine wound around the handle reinforced the grip.
Lost in his thoughts, he drew doodles in the sand with a dead stick and tried to put his mind off the blazing heat. Rosie had not arrived yet, and just waiting seemed quite boring for an otter with a desire to keep moving. But he did not want to tire himself out too much, knowing once they got up and moving they would feel even hotter. He swigged at the gourd of water he had brought, irrigating his body with cool, refreshing liquid for the fight to come.

OOC: Due to Rosie resigning from the fight, Tritan will continue to spar against Sandegar for the position of lieutenant.
