*The black furred searat entered the tavern with a sigh of relief. Although his clothes were very worn and it was clear that they had been patched many times, the rat was grinning from ear to ear*
*It was good to finally feel that he was in a familiar environment after spending such a long time fighting in foreign lands. The rat had, in fact, just returned from a large tournament. A few days after the end of it, he had begun to journey back home. The searat had a long trip, a combination of walking on foot and taking short trips on the river with anyone willing to take him, but eventually he had made his way down the River Moss to the sea. From there he went up to a corsair settlement he had known of from his other travels*
*Fishtail Dirkslash took a seat at a table near to the fire and called over a young male stoat who appeared to be a server in the tavern. After ordering some cheap rum, he sat back in his chair and looked around at the other beasts in the tavern. He didn't seem to notice any change in the crowd although there were a few more goodbeasts than usual hanging around. When the searat recieved his drink, he took a good swig from it, completely unaware that the corsair settlement of old had now become an outpost of the Guardians of Mossflower*

*Tasna enterd the tavern as quickly as possible and stood in a far corner so she could get a good look. She had come to check out the new area. The ottermaid had almost gotten lost on her way because of how different the land was compared to Mossflower.
She noticed a black searat sitting across the room from her. She looked away, not wanting to be rude for staring at a stranger. She tried not to look back but it was no use. She hadn't seen many others besides good beasts because...well...it was her first time here and she usually spent her time around good beasts all day. Tasna was more curious than she wanted to be.

*Fishtail hadn't been in the tavern long before another beast entered the tavern. As he put his mug back on the table the door swung open admitting an ottermaid. He thought it rather unusual that yet another goodbeast had entered the tavern, but it didn't bother him until he caught the otter staring at him. The searat raised an eyebrow at the ottermaid, who looked very out of place in the setting*
*Suddenly it struck him. What creature like the innocent looking ottermaid would enter a vermin tavern? Either she was extremely ignorant or completely crazed, he couldn't decide which. As he raised his mug to his lips for a second drink, he realized that the otter still hadn't gotten over her apparent fascination with him. The searat rolled his eyes and sighed. He really wasn't in the mood for dealing with simple minded creatures, but there was no way that he could relax with the crazy beast gawking at him. Couldn't the stupid thing find something else to do? He thought, now annoyed*
*Fishtail rose from his chair and called to the ottermaid* 'Oy, you there! Ah suggest ye find some other rat t' stare at, else you lose yer eyesight altogether. *He told her from where he stood at the other end of the room, moving his paw to the cutlass at his side incase she didn't catch the hint*

*Tasna glanced at the rat's paw on the cutlass. She frowned almost offended* Its not my fault that I've never seen... * She stopped and looked away, not wanting to start an argument with something she didn't even know.
The ottermaid glared at the searat but nodded* Alright. Besides, I would really enjoy keeping my eyesight intact. *She rolled her eyes* I'm sorry for staring at you. What have I been lowered to? Apologizing to a vermin. Ugh.
*Tasna cursed at the rat under her breath. She took an arrow from the carrier on her back and started examining it. The otter tightened the her grip in the bow just in case the black rat tried to attack. She realized that the searat had a cutlass almost identical to hers. Without looking at the searat she made sure that her cutlass was still in its case. It was. Tasna went back to her arrow and kept her sight on the rat in the corner of her eye*

OOC: I know it's winter IRL, but does it matter what season it is for this RP?

(OOC: Nope, the season doesn't matter at all. It would be rather inconvinient to go on a quest in the winter.)
*Fishtail was quite ready to start a fight if the ottermaid said the wrong thing, but apparently the other beast had taken his hint*
It's not my fault that I've never seen...
*It took the rat a few moments to realize what she'd meant by that statement. At first he thought that she was commenting on his ragged clothing or an old battle scar. It wasn't until the otter apologized to him (a wise move in his opinion) that he figured out what she was really saying. His view of the other had changed from an annoyance and a potential opponent to an object of amusement* Wait a second, did you just say that you've never seen a corsair? *He asked her after a quick burst of laughter* Where have you been all your life?
*Fishtail sat down in his chair still grinning at the situation. He didn't even care that she was now looking over one of her arrows, perhaps threatening him. Heck, if she's never even seen a searat before, I doubt she'd be able to use a bow properly. The searat may not be completely sure with his assumption, but he was confident that if the otter was bold enough to fire an arrow in the tavern, that she'd be promptly thrown out, if not by the owner, then by annoyed patrons*

*Marie Song Yewbow was enjoying a drink with her mate, Will. They were seated at a somewhat secluded table, across the room from the searat, clueless that the ottermaid had entered. At first neither of them noticed the words flying back and forth for all of the noise in the tavern. However, Will's ever-astute ears caught the tail end of the conversation, and the harvest mouse frowned slightly. His fiery wife was hunched over her mint tea, staring blankly at the wall above him. The frown deepened. Marie had been acting strangely ever since her return from the land-wide Tournament -- even her choice in beverage was strange. Normally, a strong ale would not have been an unlikely choice for her, but today she had insisted on tea. Highly unusual.
Taking a sip from his own mug, Will cleared his throat and stood up. Marie stirred at his movements, looking up at him with a question in her eyes.* Jes' takin' a spin aroun' the tavern. Some interestin' creatures 'ere.
*Marie's misty grey eyes flickered with disappointment, but that was quickly replaced by indifference.* Suit yerself. Ah'll jes' be 'ere, finishin' mah drink. *With that she turned her gaze back to the wall, placing a paw on her mug but not lifting it.
Will gazed at her for a moment longer, confusion wrinkling his brow. There was something different. Most curious. Shaking his head and pursing his lips, he turned and weaved through the Tavern, dodging tables and chairs and occupants. He forged a steady path towards the other side of the room, where the rat was grinning tauntingly at the ottermaid. Silently, he circled around behind the corsair, unconsciously fingering the strap of his cloth quiver. Will was a mouse of quiet speech and decisive action -- he wouldn't intervene yet, but he was watching the exchange closely. He would wait until it was the right moment; the ottermaid may prove competent enough to deal with the situation on her own.
Meanwhile, Marie tracked her husband's progress with sad eyes. She knew she was worrying her mate with her strange behavior, but she couldn't seem to get back to normal. Something was absolutely different, and it bothered her. She'd been tired during the day, strangely awake at night, uncomfortably ill at unusual times... She had considered seeing one of the Fort's healers, but her stubborn pride had refused to allow her to accept that she needed help. The golden-furred mouse pushed her tea away, sighing in deep annoyance. She hated this, this enemy she couldn't battle, couldn't fight.
Deep in her throat she allowed herself a small growl. No, don't dwell on it! Shoving the sense that something simply wasn't right to the back of her mind, Marie Yewbow rose to her booted footpaws and struck out for her mate. She didn't know what he was doing, standing behind that searat, but she was determined not to let her ill feelings keep her from being involved with whatever it was. Her jaw was set in that stubborn determination which so defined her personality, her eyes were hard and clouded.
Half-way across the room, however, she slowed to a halt. That rat. For the first time she really noticed him, took in his face and his clothing and his expression. She knew it all. Somewhere, she'd seen this rat before. The Highlander frowned, digging in her mind for the name to go with the face. It came surprisingly quickly, and her memory lit up. Fishtail. The rat from the Tavern. Elena -- seasons bless her gentle self -- had fought him during the Tournament's last Round. And now he had that taunting grin slapped on his face. Why? Shrugging off the question, she stepped forward, her gaze moving between the rat and her mate, who had not yet noticed her approach, focused as he was on the creatures immediately in front of him.*
Noo, wot's goin' on 'ere, then?

*Wind blew coldly on this side of the woods, and a hare shuddered as he walked in the Tavern. Rinafera was a Guardian, and he also knew when something was wrong. An ottermaid checking an arrow, a searat talking with two mouse, and even more curious, he himself wasn't eating. He sat down at a bench, unsheathing his scimitar and placing it on the table before ordering a large October Ale and a basket of Berry-filled Biscuits. The hare's eyes glared at the ottermaid, who was not in the best of moods. Then he glared at the mice. He noticed one of them almost instantly. Willem David Yewbow, whom he fought with gallantly many times near the fort. He was also married to a Commander, Marie, who was a pretty harvest mousemaid until you met her. She was fierce, a great fighter, and an incredible leader. The searat was an unknown to the hungry hare.
The biscuits came, and Rinafera dug in. His teeth made an annoying sound as he chewed. Why did he order biscuits? Oblivious to his normal personality, he was so hungry he thought of the first thingat yelled it at the Bar Tender. Where are my jolly flippin' manners? He thought with amusement. Standing up, he strolled over to the mice and searat.
He saw the dedication in both of their eyes, a trait they both aquired, making them a wonderful couple. I better stay out of this, he thought. The mousemaid piped up, asking what was going on in her Northern accent. Before he heard an answer, he butted into the 'converstaion.'*
I knew it was you! Commander Marie Yewbow, an bally honor to see you again. And Willem! Well how are you sir, wot?

*Tasna noticed the two new approachers*What is this? Did the searat call for backup? And does he think that I'm stupid enough to fire an arrow here? Seriously. In a tavern? I've got much more sense than that.
*The ottermaid put her arrow back into her pack to show that she would wouldn't dare fire an arrow in here. She placed the bow on her back. Again, the otter made sure that her cutlass was still on her belt. She adjusted it so she could reach it easily in case one of the three of them tried to attack* I don't care if it's an unfair fight. The other beasts in the tavern might not take kindly to a three on one fight.
*Tasna kept scanning her eyes over each of them so she could react quickly to a sneeky move* Why is the corsair rat grinning at me like that? *Another beast entered the tavern but Tasna didn't notice the hare until he strolled over to the mousemaid and greeted her. The otter crossed her forepaws and shifted her position so she was putting most of her weight onto her left footpaw. Tasna just stood there and glared at each of the four of them, one by one* This is just getting stranger and stranger.

*After the ottermaid put away her arrow, the searat completely lost interest in the situation. He was much more interested in his mug of ale and returned to it promptly, raising the drink to his lips again. Over the rim of his cup, he saw a mousemaid approaching him, but it wasn't until she spoke that he recognized her from the tournament. The searat placed his drink back on the table to greet her* Ahoy there! Good t' see you again.
*It wasn't until then that he noticed a second mouse standing behind him with a paw on his quiver. The corsair wondered what the mouse was doing, but figured that if he wanted something, he'd ask Fishtail directly. He also appeared to be an honest beast and not one to go starting a brawl without reason. Even if he had decided to inquire the other mouse, he wouldn't have had the chance for a hare approached the group*
I knew it was you! Commander Marie Yewbow, an bally honor to see you again. And Willem! Well how are you sir, wot?
*Fishtail had never seen the hare before, although it seemed that Marie and the other mouse, Willem, knew him. The searat knew that he still had yet to answer Marie's question, but he wasn't exactly sure what to say and anyway, the situation now seemed irrelevant in his mind. After all, the ottermaid who had started it all hadn't said a word since she'd apologized. As for the rest of it, Fishtail honestly had no idea what was going on. To him it looked like an excellent corsair tavern had become over run by honest beasts, which were normally unusual in a place like this. Still feeling confused, he took a sip of his ale and waited for whatever would happen next*

I knew it was you! Commander Marie Yewbow, an bally honor to see you again. And Willem! Well how are you sir, wot?
*With concerted movements, Marie and Will turned towards the voice which so obviously belonged to a hare who knew their names, curious as to who it was. The female mouse furrowed her brow, but after a moment she joined her husband in recognition. She smiled confidently and nodded a greeting.* Ah, Rinafera, lad! O'course, 'tis an honor tae see ye, too.
S'been too long, m'buckoe. *Willem's normally stoic face broke into a grin, and he stepped around the searat to extend a firm, friendly pawshake to the hare. He may have been a mouse of few words, quiet in social situations, but he knew a comrade when he saw one and harbored a great sense of loyalty to those he'd fought alongside with.* Ah've been doin' fine there, Rina, jes' fine. M'rie's returned from th'Tourney, as ye kin see. *He motioned towards his wife, who had just now noticed that Fishtail had addressed her.*
Ahoy there! Good t' see you again.
Same tae ye, laddie. *Marie rested her elbows on the back of one of the table's unoccupied chairs that was facing the searat. She clasped her golden, scarred paws, glancing warily from rat to otter. She still wanted to know what was going on, having duly noticed Fishtail's lack of answering her question, and now the otter was looking at her and her husband and Rinafera as if they were enemies. Decision formed, she called out to the otter.* 'Oy, lassie, why don' ye join us? We're all frien's 'ere, eh?
*Curiousity mingled with authority in her voice, her request carrying the weight of a mild command. After all, the port was now an outpost of the Guardians of Mossflower, and she was a Commander; why shouldn't she have authority? She didn't expect the vermin who continued to occupy the Fort to respect her fully at first, but she suspected that this ottermaid may have been a new recruit of the Guardians and hoped that a figure of authority might calm her.*

*Tasna hesitated at first. She wasn't sure if she wanted to be friends with the searat that had threatened her. She was comforted though by the voice of authority that Marie had. The otter strolled over to the table that Marie and the rat were sitting at. She sat down next to Marie across from the corsair rat so that she could keep an eye on him* Hello. My name is Tasna DeRud. And you are? *Tasna address the mouse and the searat*

* The door opened a bit and in walked a rat, Kryshana Pyr. Walking over to an empty table, she sat down and ordered a drink. Sipping her ale, she observed what was going on around her. There seemed to be a lot of goodbeasts there, but yet she saw another tavern down the way that was near empty, except for a mouse who seemed to be waiting for someone to come in.
You know, she looked like an ordinary rat, mostly harmless if you just took a glance. Her brown skirt and white tunic seemed to escape notice half the time, and when it didn't, nobody really did anything, just look, then get back to their socializing. Her earrings glinted in the light of the fire as she tried to keep her attention away from the talking beasts. Though, she wouldnt' exactly say no to someone talking to her. Not many people to talk to since she got off the ship. And it was doubtable whether she would be pillaging on the Cute pike any time soon.*

*Rinafera listened to Marie, smiling. Willem approached him, too. As they were talking, an ottermaid approached and spoke before the hare could reply. He listened attentively to her, and smiled sweetly. Looking back to Willem, he spoke in a friendly way.*
Well, my flippin' jolly good ole fellow, how are you? Are you still fightin' vahmin everywhere you bally go, wot?

Vermin? Oh no...Kryshana thought. I'm doomed. After all, a vermin killer? In a tavern she was in? After all, she was called a vermin by many goodbeasts. Maybe it was because of the earrings. But either way... what? Oh, there seems to be another rat in here with her. He didn't look too worried, not as much as she probably did. Hope not anyways. Did she really look worried?*
