OOC: Hope I'm not too late, and also that birds are accepted. BIC: Racing swiftly through the crowded docks, Torekvo snarled angrily, glancing up at the graceful shape of an osprey far above him. Damn Cedric! 'e should 'ave at least told me i' was t'day. His footpaws in their burgundy boots beat steadily on the old, worn cobblestones as he sprinted through the bustle, a paw resting on the hilt of the cutlass hanging from his belt. His amber eyes narrowed, he burst through the crowd, the sour taste of exasperation on his mouth. Seeing the dominating shape of a ship resting across the sandy beach before him and the otter standing proudly upon it. Hitching up his baggy black pants, Torekvo thoughtlessly ran out onto the sand. Immediately his home element greeted him, yet the coyote had work to do. Knotting the straps of his beige jerkin together as he ran, he looked up once more to see the shape of a soaring osprey circling above the ship. Spitting into the sea water for luck, he skipped onto the deck, landing with thump on the wood. He proudly raised his elongated muzzle and looked around the ship, taking in the sight of the many creatures, secretly worried about whether or not he was late. A great variety, composed of hares, otters, mice, foxes, rats and shrews, stood around the deck, yet most looked slightly less verminous than the coyote and his companion. With an unintelligible mutter, the brown-furred foreign canine looked up, his amber eyes fixed on the shape of the silver osprey gliding above the ship, like a predator stalking its prey. Snorting, the tall, sinewy beast threw his head back and howled at the bird in a pitch too high for the canine himself to hear, in a wordless command that Torekvo was sure would convey to the osprey. *** Cedric soared high above the ship that he expected would become his home. It was strong and speedy, much like the ship he had once sailed with. The mighty stolen vessel of Parro Quickfang was now a mere memory, yet it was still the pride of the silver bird's life, next to the three chicks back on the mainland. His glowing eyes caught a brief glance of a cliff not far away, and his heart lept. Many long years ago, he'd hoarded a large amount of treasure in a cave deep in the cliff, a place where only the airborne could reach. It was safe for now, he knew, but still reminded himself to move the treasure somewhere else. His eyes had just moved back down to survey the ship when a terrible howl hit his avian ears. To him it was a shriek that reached the highest point of his vocal range, and it was the one way the blasted coyote could catch his attention. Irritably he dived down, his talons stretched out before him, ready to clasp the wooden rail going around the ship. Flexing his hooked claws, he opened his cruel beak and gave an ultrasound shriek, purely out of habit. His talons clamped onto the rail, the black tips digging into the polished wood. Clacking his beak together gleefully, he looked around the ship, awed by its magnificence. It was perfect.

*Morning. It was this time of day that seemed to lure most beasts away from their well spent slumber to the state of wakefulness so they could enjoy the beauty that was presented by such a wonderful vision of light cutting through the darkness dominating the landscape. It was just at this time when the sun rose above the horizon of the dark blue sea that there was the faint appearance of life on the barren streets of the settlement.
As the sun continually rose above the horizon, shedding more of its glorious rays upon the earth, the darkness that seemed to have clung to the streets and buildings all night began to receed, bringing out more definition of what was present on the streets.
On one particular street, which was closer to the dockyards and thus appeared to have been lit up much more than the interior of the settlement, a solitary creature was seen slowly, but confidently swaggering its way along the roads winding toward the harbor. Although not much could be seen of the beast, it was generally noticed that he wore a dark trench coat, tan pantaloons, a tricot hat, and some newly purchased sea boots which still were clean from the shop. Upon closer inspection, this solitary beast did not seem to mind taking to the streets alone, especially when it was just turning into morning. Instead, the beast seemed quite content with the situation at hand, blissfully snacking on an apple that was brought as a precaution against hunger fits.
Finishing the apple and tossing the core away so as to land on an unwalked area of the street, the beast stopped momentarily to gather his bearings and wipe his paws clean. As he stooped down and wiped his paws on a small patch of dew-covered grass that was growing out from the barren streets he could be heard muttering about how the grass should be a bit warmer these days than what it felt like.
Standing back up, the beast, which was more defined by the flooding sunlight to be a rat, tipped his hat forward slightly so as to shield his eyes from the onslaught of the sun's warm, blinding rays. As he finished fussily adjusting his hat, his attention was immediatly caught by the sight a ship anchored in the harbor ahead. Being of the slightly curious mindset, he began heading toward the ship, hoping to catch it before it set off to sea so he could at least inspect it and admire it, for even from where he was it looked like quite the amazing piece of work.
After walking for quite the while, Scratchfur finally made it down to the warf where the ship was anchored. Taking a few cautious steps, he stopped about 20 meters away from the loading bridge. Upon the deck of the ship appeared to be quite a few other beasts, obviously wanting to be present as part of the crew of such a fine ship. Taking his time on making up his mind about joining the rest of them onboard the deck of the ship, Scratchfur weighed his options as to what he could do. After a minute of doing so, he immediately took the few steps needed to reach the bridge and make his way to the main deck.
Smirking to himself, he knew he couldn't pass up such an offer, if it indeed did present itself to him. For he was, in fact, a Sea Rat, and as such was instinctively drawn toward the sea. This ship was merely a way of his being able to get to where he could be comfortable. Besides, it couldn't be worse than barren, deserted streets.
Or could it. That was to be seen, as he strolled across the deck to where the rest of the beasts were gathered. Among them he recognized a few, but quite a few were still unknown to him. Taking a deep breath, he continued until he reached where they were all standing. Smiling as warmly as he could this early in the morning, he did the best to give greetings to the rest.*
'Gud morn' te ye all, mateys.

*Finnerator groaned as the bright morning sun shone through the window onto the sea otter, glistening on her copper colored fur. As the ottermaid lay there, trying to ignore the rude forces of nature, events of the night before slowly came back to her. Taking a room at the inn, the tavern, the fight... then suddenly it dawned on her* The voyage! *The otter leaped out of bed and to the chest at the foot of it. She took out some clothes for the day and hurriedly pulled them on, with time against her. The otter then grabbed a pair of boots from beside her bed and put them on, while trying to think of what she'd need for the voyage* Let's see, I'd better bring my cooking supplies, just incase, provisions, extra sets of clothing...
*After getting the second boot on her footpaw, she fetched a haversack and began to pack it. The otter grinned in spite of herself as she threw in shirts and pants into the bag. Even after years of procrastinating, she still never learned her lesson to do things beforehand rather than last minute. When the bag was filled with the rest of her supplies such as a couple of pots and some spices and herbs, she tossed it over her shoulder and started to assemble her weapons. First, she belted on her dirk, then with longbow in hand and a quiver of arrows over her other shoulder, Finnerator headed out of the room*
Oh shoot, I forgot breakfast. *She said on her way down the stairs to the ground floor of the inn. Luckily, the otter spotted the innkeeper who seemed to notice that she was in a hurry* I'll have something to eat on the go, if y'don't mind. *Finnerator asked, pulling some coins out of her pocket. She counted out enough to pay for the room and the meal and handed it over to the ferret as he gave her an apple and some bread and cheese* Thanks very much! *The ottermaid called back as she headed out the door*
*With a grin of excitement, she made her way through the streets, heading towards the sea for lack of knowing the actual location of the docks. Seems like my adventure's already started. When she came to the cliffs, she could see the docks in the distance. Now convinced of her direction, Finnerator concentrated on getting down. To spare herself the extra weight, the ottermaid tossed her haversack onto the sand below, then she put her longbow over her shoulder to give herself two free paws. With her natural agility and strength, she made it down without much trouble*
*Finnerator then started to run down the beach, but slowed to a walk when she saw that they were not yet heading out. There were already a good number of beasts milling around on deck. From this distance she could make out a few of the figures. She grimaced when she saw the hare on board, the same that had caused so much trouble the night before. Hopefully, he would be in a better mood this morning*
*When the otter finally reached the ship, she walked confidently up onto the deck, very glad that her late start to the day had not cost her the voyage. Now that she was on the ship, Finnerator really began to admire its size and sturdiness. It was definitely a sea worthy ship and a good choice for the voyage. Finnerator looked around at the other beasts gathered, a combination of goodbeast and vermin. She knew immediately that this would prove to be an interesting adventure indeed*

OOC: Awfully long post, but I had a lot of replying to do.
The ship rocked gently on the ebbing tide, causing the otter leaning against the wooden rail to stand up quickly and jump backwards in order to avoid the small keg which came rolling down the deck. He regained his former posture as the massive vessel righted itself once more and squinted into the distance, peering at the cliffs which led to the sandy beach. Being so far away he couldn’t tell for sure, but it appeared that somebeast was making their way down the narrow stair carved into the sheer rock face. The otter grinned. Assured that he would at least have one crew member he took a step backwards from the rail and looked himself over, determined to look a proper captain and seabeast when they arrived.
Across his broad shoulders was stretched a sleeveless blue tunic for freedom of movement, partially faded with the seasons but still in good condition. A wide woven belt sporting numerous cloth pouches was buckled around his waist, while he also wore baggy tan trousers which came down to below his ankles. Twin bone bracelets encircled one wrist, while a black band hid a small but wickedly sharp belt knife on his left. To keep the seaspray out of his eyes he wore a red piece of fabric tied around his forehead, and to top everything off, his battle-worn broadsword rested by his hip, always close to paw.
“Hello Commander. Are you ready for the voyage?”
The voice came from beside him. Trying to hide his startled expression, for the other beast had come up unnoticed, Darter nodded to the otter, Tasna. He recognized her from the tavern the morning before.
“Sure am, matey. Hope y’ are too, I think we’re in fer a rough time, th’ seas ain’t nearly as calm as they usu’lly are. ‘Twill be –” He was interrupted unknowingly by Rinafera appearing nearby. As usual, the hare seemed rather jovial and content.
“Nice flippin’ day, eh, Commander? Wot is my bally post, Commander Darter?”
As his wry smile had not yet faded from his brief encounter with Tasna a moment before, the otter youth was easily able to keep a look of annoyance off of his features as he replied to the upbeat hare. “I’ll announce th’ posts once ev’rybeast is present, mate. ‘Til then ye’ll ‘ave ter wait. Oh, an’ by th’ way, I ain’t yer command’r away from land, merely th’ ship’s cap’n.”
Another arrival caught his eye as he closed his mouth. A rat had boarded the ship, a corsair from the looks of her. She didn’t approach him, but instead looked around at her surroundings, noting them carefully. Darter didn’t mind having what he previously considered ‘vermin’ aboard, but did know that some of his goodbeast crew might not take easily to having former corsairs aboard. ‘S time they deal with it, he thought almost irritably, an’ besides, in th’ future it’ll do ‘em well if’n they don’t attack ev’ry vermin on sight. P’raps this’ll be th’ voyage that shows ‘em th’ truth.
“Hoy, I heard ye were lookin’ fer some seabeasts. Mind if I join yer voyage?”
Another searat had boarded the vessel. Darter shifted his position into a more comfortable one as he turned to face the new arrival, recognition slowly dawning on him as he spoke. “Course y’ cin, matey. Glad ter ‘ave yer aboard.” As the otter finished his statement he finally remembered where he had seen the young rat before – the tavern. He had been the one who had appeared so experienced. Pity I can’t place him in a position of authority, he thought, but felt a wave of relief wash over him to know that at least the rat had come.
Out of the corner of his eye the otter youth thought he might have seen a mouse approaching, but dismissed it as mere illusion when he spotted Laylark nearby. His friend sported his usual silly grin and addressed the group with a casual air.
“So… what’s all this about?”
Darter shook his head slightly as he put on a mock look of severity. “We’re goin’ sailin’, matey. Wot d’yer think we were doin’, havin’ tea?” He gestured to his friend’s outfit and general lack of seafaring equipment with a wave of his paw. “If’n yer comin’ yer gonna need more’n that, but we got sum extra gear in th’ cabin. Y’ don’t have time ter go back fer yer stuff.”
As he turned away to hide the grin threatening to show itself, he found himself face to face with Marie and Willem, both geared up for a sailing voyage and ready to go. The war commander nodded to himself, satisfied. Marie would do well for a first mate, having ideal seafaring experience. For a moment he had that strange feeling that she was off-balance again, but it quickly vanished as she reported smartly.
“Ahoy there, cap’n! M’rie an’ Will reportin’ fer duty!”
“Mornin’ mates! Ah heard we were goin’ on a likkle adventure, ‘ere?”
As he opened his mouth to reply to Marie, a cheerful Rosie also appeared. This time Darter couldn’t hide the smile that spread across his features. He hadn’t seen her around for quite a long time and having her along for the journey would definitely be enjoyable. Plus, with her on board the rest of the crew wouldn’t have to endure his awful cooking. He nodded to all three newcomers approvingly. “Right! Glad ter see yer all ‘ere. Glad ter see yer comin’, Rosie, we’re on an adv’nture indeed. Out ter seas, mate!”
“Mary Narai is here, Commander. She wants to bally join our ship. She requests your confirmation, sir, wot.”
A slightly confused Darter turned to face Rinafera, who had addressed him. His level gaze looked to Mary, and he realized that she had been the mouse he had earlier assumed was illusion. “My apologies, M’ry. I musta not ‘eard yer earlier. ‘Course y’ cin come along.”
“Could we join?”
Songwind and her husband, Brawn, had also arrived. As the otter commander turned to approve their request, he spotted the strange beast that had been in the tavern the day before. The one with the build of a fox yet which possessed other qualities which distinctly set him apart from them. This time he arrived with a large bird, a sea hawk from the looks of the curved beak and sharp talons. Darter raised his eyebrows in surprise. He hadn’t thought a bird would come along. None the less, he would definitely be an asset if they had to do any scouting. The newcomer didn’t approach him, but instead took up a position nearby. The otter shrugged sub-consciously and turned back to the two squirrels.
“O’ course, mates. Glad ter ‘ave yer ‘ere.”
After the arrival of two more beasts, both whom he recognized as members of the fort back in Mossflower, Darter took it upon himself to make an announcement to rally his newfound crew.
“Lissen up! I’ll appoint th’ positions now. M’rie Yewbow’ll be first mate, an’ Tasna second. Finnerator is lookout, Songwind official ship’s medic and if Rosie doesn’t mind I’d like ter appoint ‘er to th’ post of ship’s cook. Right, mates! Let’s git goin’, then!” Hoist th’ anchor, cut th’ ropes! Raise th’ sail!”
As he yelled out orders to leave port, the otter commander smiled to himself. They were leaving at last. He was going back to sea.
OOC: No new joiners after this post, please.

*After hearing the arrangement of rank for the ship, Scratchfur nodded in agreement at Captain Darter's decision. It was, indeed, a good choice of officers for the voyage. Not like other ships that he had been on where the officers could have been equivalent to a puddle of mud, unable to do anything but ready to tar you at a moments notice. Busily thinking about some of his past voyages, he almost missed the Captain's first orders for leaving port. Snapping out of his half-daze, he, almost literally, jumped into action. Taking a few steps toward the main mast, he looked up toward the sails towering high above the main deck of the ship. Standing in the position of looking up for a few seconds, he suddenly turned around and headed toward the anchor instead, muttering something about not being too fond of heights.*

*Rinafera gazed over the sea as the ship gently rolled off the harbor. The hare sunk in the atmosphere and smiled as the hot sun and cool breeze mixed together to make a wonderful seafaring day. He had been on a ship only once, but knew how to act and assume the role of a sailor. Walking along the deck, he smiled at Mary. Most of the vermin had not boarded the ship, including the fox and the ferret, who were the two that looked at him with expressions that read 'I'm going to kill you.' Scratching his back, the hare looked blank, but satisfied, as the ship left the dock. It was going to be another fine day for a voyage.*

*Tasna watched the shore as the ship left the harbour. It would be the first time she wasn't going to be on the land. All her life, the only thing she knew was the land. The ottermaid had only read about sailing in books. This would be a challenge. She would have to give it her all. This would be a good experience. Awhile after they left the shore, she turned around to her duty* Alright. Lets see here.

*Finnerator Rudderbow grinned as Darter gave the orders. It looked like she would be lookout this time round. The sea otter nodded in agknowledgement of his orders and headed towards the nearest Jacob's ladder that lead up to the crowsnest. On the steps it took to reach the ladder, the otter noticed the hare from the tavern pacing about the deck dreamily. Without stopping she rolled her eyes and called out to the lazy beast* Ahoy there, d'you think this ship is going to move itself? *The ottermaid asked him, a bit annoyed* I suggest you make yourself useful or this voyage won't be going anywhere.
*Without glancing back at the hare, she began to climb the ladder up to the nest. Finnerator grinned as a sea breeze ruffled her fur. It had been a long time since she'd been out on the open sea and the otter was looking forward to every minute of it. When she reached the top, the ottermaid looked out over the sea with adventure in her eye, then, coming back to reality, she looked down at the crew, milling about below. Deciding to make herself useful, she climbed up onto on of the masts and started to untie the ropes holding the sail up. Gazing into the open sea could wait for later*

* Mary raised her paw and asked Darter.* I don't believe I hear you, what position did you want me to be? * Not cooking. ANything but that. she thought, and with good reason. She wasnt' exactly what you call a good cook. Actually she detested it, and she wasnt' a very good medic too.*

*Rinafera stood on the edgeof the stern, gazing out to sea as the ship slid amazingly on the water. The hare smiled and embraced the feeling off a moving ship with the wind at their back on a warm day. He smiled as Songwind approached him.
Hello mate.
Rinafera turned and nodded, his gaze still on the drifts and ripples made by the ship on the blue water. Shrugging, he still awaited Darter's orders.*
Well, Songwind. Its a beautiful day. Where is Brawn? If you don't mind me asking.
